LAYERS of MEANING
AN INTERNATIONAL ONLINE EXHIBITION OF RECENT ENCAUSTIC WORKS
What is Encaustic?
Encaustic artforms are created using molten, pigmented beeswax. Heat is used at every stage of the process. The word encaustic comes from the Greek enkaustikos which means to burn in.
Call for Submissions
Propeller Art Gallery invites artists to share encaustic works created in 2020/21.
We are looking to showcase a variety of ways that artists have approached their work in these recent times, finding “layers of meaning” through art. Works may include encaustic paintings, sculpture, vessels, prints and mixed media.
All works must incorporate hot wax encaustic techniques.
As this is an online exhibition, local artists, artists from across Canada and International artists are all encouraged to submit. Works will not be shipped to the Gallery.
Deadline for Submissions: EXTENDED to Monday, June 28, 11:00pm EDT
Artists are invited to submit one or two pieces. Submission costs are $30 for one piece ($25 for Members) and $50 for two pieces ($45 for Members).
Submissions will include an overall image of the work, a brief Artist Statement about the work and may also include an installation image where applicable.
Selected artists will be invited to present a brief Artist’s Talk at the Zoom opening. Additional images and/or short videos may be submitted later for the talk.
