I first learned about Propeller through an Experiential Learning course at OCADu. At that point, I didn’t know much about the arts scene in Toronto – only that I wanted to paint. As an Emerging Member, Propeller has given me the opportunity to do what I love, while also pushing me to grow. I learned ways to exhibit outside of school, which has greatly impacted how I navigate my art career post-grad. What it takes to run a gallery and survive after 30 years, even in the face of gentrification, which has displayed so many creatives in the city. And, most importantly, I got to indulge in how art has the potential to bridge conversations between generations. The community that I’ve connected with at the gallery are so supportive and encouraging – it’s a very special place for me and one that I am proud to be a part of.
