I first submitted to one of Propeller’s juried exhibitions, The Promise of Sekishu Washi, in 2019. It was a wonderful experience – well organized, excellent artwork, friendly and collegial artists. That gave me the confidence to join as a member in 2020 with my first solo exhibition in 2021. Since then, I have learned so much from the experienced, generous artists, and made close friends that have helped me take my practice with heritage washi to new levels. As I learned more about Propeller’s wonderful history and legacy, I have become a fierce supporter and I am glad to have helped in securing its future.
My submission ’30’ pays homage to the legacy of Propeller – each year a little different than the last, combining to form a greater whole, with a nod to the original juried exhibition through the use of the exquisite Sekishu washi.
