I am an aficionado of both English Renaissance music and 19th- and 20th- century English composers, such as Ralph Vaughan Williams, who incorporated Renaissance themes and modes into their works. My favourite piece by Vaughan Williams, “Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis,” is so visceral to me, replete with glowing landscapes and golden figures. I like to think of my triptych as the joyful, collaborative effort of Tallis, Vaughan Williams and me–artists sharing inspirations over hundreds of years….
