Most people and dictionaries would define “abstract art” as non-representational, but that definition is slippery as all that is abstract is founded on some form of representation be it micro- or macroscopic.
Clouds morph from just erratic shapes to recognizable or suggestible images and back to the ethereal.
Based on that premise, my submitted work, whose real title I’ll hold back, is made up of shapes and colour that can be pinned down as pictorial but elusive enough to be considered suggestive but still abstract.
A title will render an abstract image, figural, so, one should refrain from titling an abstract work. Thus my title for this painting is Sans nom.
Above all, I wish to dedicate this painting to Gwen Tooth: memories of the many shows we participated in especially our four artist booth at Art Toronto in 2014 with Frances Patella and Lisa Johnson.
