Markhan Hussain

Propeller Member Since 2026

Markhan (she/her) is an emerging curator, design strategist, and foresight consultant based in Toronto. She holds a Master of Design in Strategic Foresight and Innovation from OCAD University, and works across curation, design, marketing, and program management. She co-curated Traces, a thematic exhibition with DesignTO at Harbourfront Centre, and is developing Between Flood and Forgetting: An Exhibition in Two Tides with DesignTO and the Textile Museum of Canada for 2027.

Markhan Hussain is an emerging curator whose practice sits not in fine arts but in the frameworks that let other people’s work be understood and felt. She is drawn to subjects that hold more than one truth at once. A topic shifts depending on whose lived reality it passes through, so she builds exhibitions that carry several readings side by side, whether that means a body of work by a single artist or a group of artists brought to the same question. Her approach to any topic begins with the same set of questions: what do we hold onto, what do we lose, and how do we go on living with both. She is drawn to the emotional weight an incident or a crisis leaves behind, and she curates from feeling before concept, giving artists room to express that weight rather than document it. What she is building towards is an exhibition that does not resolve a subject but makes room for it and leaves a visitor with something they are still carrying on the way out.
