Lauren McKinley Renzetti

Propeller Member from 1996-2001, renewed member since 2025

Born in Mississauga, Lauren grew up on the campus of Sheridan College School of Crafts and Design. Where her love of all materials and her curiosity was fostered. She received a Combined Honours degree in Fine Art and Theatre Design at McMaster University (1994). And rounded out her theatre education at Ryerson Polytechnic (1995).

Lauren creates, Artists as much as art and has taught for over forty years. She has taught at Georgian College, McMaster University, Metropolitan Toronto University (formerly Ryerson Polytechnic), Art Gallery of Hamilton, Art Works Art School, ARTiculations, Art For Cancer Foundation & LucSculpture Studio. Lauren was Artist in Residence at Unicamp of Ontario facilitating community art projects from
2003- 2024. Lauren currently teaches adults, painting, printmaking, drawing, colour theory and plein air watercolour at the AGO, Seneca Polytechnic and Unicamp of Ontario as well as abroad. Her work is shown widely in Ontario, and Bulgaria. Her art is in collections in the AGO, TDSB and in private ones in Canada, the US, Luxenberg, Bulgaria, Belgum, India, Morrocco & Australia.

Lauren’s subject matter is always from SOMETHING, textural, varied in paint, collage, small installations, cast or assembled sculpture, quilted, sewn, often mixed in media & often printed. Lauren’s work offers positive messages of YES and is a logical mapping of her reaction to the world, as an Abstract Maximalist Artist. Her most recent endeavours are taking two main pathways; Public Sign of Affection are wooden paint/printed signs of Positivity throughout Toronto city streets; and the other are patterned or landscaped works incorporating paint, print and inclusions of thread, yarn and beads to add small textural details. These are gifts for the close observer.

many elements are important to my
Making.
the Idea, the Message &
the Process being the most important.

I control, every step of the way.
nothing is Random.
thinking about the…
how do I … how will I …how can I…. a lot.
enjoying all stages- Reveling in it.

during this process of making, allowing
the medium to decide things for me
on a leash.

the process is very exciting
like a new love affair, or a drug
(a good one- with no ill effects).

the end result is
Always a CHEZZAM,
never a disappointment
because it is also
a step, and reminder of the Process.

I aim to be a Maker with a Message every day.
