I’m interested in cycles – or moving narratives. I like telling stories in particular ways where the body and its environment are engaging with one another. Intuitively, I’m looking to develop symbolism which explores the body as it rests inside another body, or merges with something else, or is alienated from its composition. I follow my drawings, and often the story is one of hybridity. The hybridized body is both the giver and receiver; concealed and unconcealed – A manner of becoming. There is ambiguity in all ideas, a permanent indecisiveness – I want to make things with this in mind, where everything is opening, becoming porous and settling in- between folds. Building my work up in layers, I use fleshy or textures mediums to try and get at something entirely physical – where the object becomes its own ecosystem, land inside land. Often, the intermediary is seen as a transitory state, or a purgatory. What would happen if we stayed put and became middled? Getting away from dualism and embracing the multiplicity of a doubled narrative?
