Dominique Prévost presents serene tableaux inspired by landscape and changing light. Colours set the atmosphere! Transitions are orchestrated by juxtaposing subtle washes of watercolour and their happy accidents with more vigorous mark-making. In the work, stains mark the passing of time and emphasize the pigment’s behaviour on various surfaces. Prévost uses handmade paper from Japan (washi), classic European watercolour papers and a variety of not so precious “found” papers. The geometric assemblages encapsulate the spontaneity of the gestures and allow the colours to strive side by side within the composition.
