Symbolic of the irrepressible life force, the Green Man re-emerges in our collective unconscious most notably when we are especially estranged from nature. Recent human-scale figurative sculpture employs paper fran freeman hand makes from plant fibre. Freeman explores our place in the natural world, our misguided attempts to separate from and dominate “the environment”, and our relationship with the spiritual intelligence of nature. One of the exhibited pieces, veriditas, has been selected for inclusion in VAO’s two-year travelling exhibition.
