Please contact the gallery for sales inquiries.

Plane To See by Propeller member Frances Patella is an exhibition of recent mixed media and photo-based work that explores the landscapes of controlled burns. Using a carpenter’s plane, Patella shaves off layers of photographs and paint, using the plane as another tool, to reveal the slow passage of time.

Frances Patella was born in Italy and resides in Toronto.  She is a photo-based artist whose work explores transformation in the landscapes of controlled burns.

Patella’s work has been exhibited extensively in solo, juried exhibitions and art fairs, including Art Toronto. She has received Mid-Career grants from the Ontario and Toronto Arts Councils and Best In Show and Purchase Awards. Frances holds a BFA from York University, a B.ED. from the University of Toronto, studied Visual Arts at the University of Western Ontario and in Florence Italy. She is a member of Propeller Art Gallery and former Chair, and a member of the Ontario Society of Artists. Frances has taught visual arts and photography in the TDSB, conducted Cyanotype workshops for the Photo Educators Forum in Toronto and at the National Gallery of Photography in Ottawa. For many years, she was also a Board Member and Chair of Jury and Judges for the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair. www.francespatella.com
