Explorations | Sharon Dembo | North Gallery
In this exhibition I move away from the theme of dance to explore more abstract forms, using a variety of techniques of printmaking: Intaglio, carborundum, collagraph, chine collé and encaustic monotype. It was both a joyful and playful exploration, with many surprises along the way.
Sharon Dembo is a visual artist and child psychotherapist living in Toronto. She has been painting for over 25 years and has taken painting trips to several countries such as France, Mexico and Italy as well as to both coasts of Canada. Most of her landscapes have been painted “en plein air”. More recently over the past 16 years, her focus has shifted to printmaking. She uses a variety of print-making modalities. Sharon has exhibited and sold her work in a number of venues in Toronto and Alton Mills over the past several years.

What is solid, what is transparent, what is elusive, can a fleeting moment be stubbornly meaningful?
Dominique Prévost plays with notions of above, below and within. The structuring patterns found in our veins, rivers, trees and skies are reconfigured into meditative paper dances. Watercolour, Sumi ink and a plethora of papers serve to make visible what connects and shapes us all.

Dominique Prévost has shown extensively in the GTA since 1984 and her works are collected here and abroad. Recipient of many Awards, she is an Active Member of the Burlington Fine Arts Association, the Ontario Society of Artists and of Propeller Art Gallery.
Dominique’s artworks are atmospheric abstracted landscapes. They are assemblages showcasing changing light, organic patterns, and stylized structures. Each artwork is composed of multiple painted and manipulated surfaces that evoke the perception of depth and space. Dominique uses watercolour, acrylic, ink, crayons and found material on a wide variety of papers; ranging from exquisite handmade Japanese Washi papers and classical European watercolour papers, to utilitarian papers.
Sungmi Kong
Beautiful time passes lightly in an instant without waiting. I open my eyes wide and move quickly, but my hands are not fast enough to catch it. With the speed of a bright light, I seem to catch them, but I’m always one step behind.
Sungmi Kong creates many layers using soft brush strokes on Korean paper to create depth of color. She expresses delicately and dynamically the breath of a child, flowers, and fish by using the smearing of water as the paint soaks into the paper and then dries.
Sungmi Kong, Korean artist and owner of Rainbow Studio in Oakville since 2018, has had a great impact on the local community through her many art activities. In 2022 she was awarded the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Her desire to support, share and show diverse artistic practices brings us together. Her goal is to create new relationships and exhibit an enjoyable and engaging experience that will enrich the entire community. She is looking forward to discovering the threads that connect us all!
She is best known for her unique Korean traditional folk-art paintings, which have often been exhibited throughout the Greater Toronto Area for the past few years and getting well recognized. As an active member of the Burlington Fine Arts Association (BAFF) and Korean Artists Society of Canada (KASC) where she is continuously involved with, through their major art events often by exhibitions and workshops.
