April 14 – 25, 2010
This exhibition highlights the artist’s personal and social engagement with painting for over two decades. Several of the selected works are on exhibit for the first time.
“We need to know where we have been: to know where we are going” (Jennifer Delos eyes, Canadian social art theorist). This statement fuels much of the purpose and context for this retrospective at this moment in the artist’s career. With so much media emphasis on the ‘new’, this exhibition self-consciously provides a perspective from which to view her current work today.
“Drawing on personal and specific conditions of existence in which I find myself, these paintings refer to both ‘bad taste’ and modern pop culture within a romantic and formalist approach to painting. The act and process of
painting become part of the intention of the work. The result, a poetic and unexpected transformation of the idea.”-Anne-Marie Cosgrove
