1954 – 2018
Diana described herself as “an independent artist, writer and critical thinker. She was born in Ireland and grew up in the United States before moving to Canada in 1969. She attended Sheridan College School of Design and Crafts in Ontario and trained in Ceramics. In the early 1970’s she began doing clay and plastic figurative sculpture.
In 2013, she received an MFA from OCADU for her thesis exhibition, Age is Written on the Body, an investigation of the experience of middle age. Until her 2015 diagnosis of multiple myeloma, bone marrow cancer, Meredith taught digital art in the Visual and Digital Art program at Humber College in Toronto. In 2016 she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
The body is at the center of my art practice. I am particularly interested how experience maps itself across the human face and body. Chronic illness and age carve their distinctive marks into the flesh.

Diana Meredith’s Cancer Files Exhibition at Propeller
Diana Meredith responded to three cancer diagnoses by creating a biographical series of digital paintings that interlaced language and image. In 2018 she joined Propeller and began planning for a solo exhibition of Cancer Files. Then Diana Meredith saw Mary Kainerโs exhibit, Body/Burden the two organized a joint exhibition titled Diagnosis.
Regrettably, Diana Meredith died from a flu virus during the preparations for this exhibition. Propeller Gallery agreed to postpone the show and include Aftermath, a memorial series by Peter Marmorek (Meredithโs partner in life).
